Arteriosclerosis/Atherosclerosis
About
Arteriosclerosis is an actual hardening, thickening, or loss of walls of the blood vessels. Atherosclerosis is an actual type of arteriosclerosis. Fatty substances, cholesterol, cellular waste, calcium & fibrin build up in the inner lining of an artery. These substances actually make up plaque.
Notes
A large number of physicians advocate angioplasty or bypass surgery for patients with hardening of the arteries, especially for the ones dealing with disabling angina. Angioplasty is the insertion of a balloon at the end of a catheter, blown up to compress the clogged area of the artery against the artery wall and then removed. In bypass surgery healthy blood vessels are taken from elsewhere in the body (in most cases from the legs) and inserted as a detour around a diseased coronary artery. After having this type of surgery, if is vital that patients make nutritional and lifestyle changes. If these changes are not made, arteriosclerosis will continue, and the fatty deposits will again build up.
A Natural hormone called Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) has been found to be very beneficial in aiding the prevention of hardening of the arteries.
It is believed that as many as three thousand physicians offer Chelation Therapy in the United States. This therapy is said to break up arterial plaque and boost circulation.
Omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids (EFAs) have shown beneficial tendencies in the treatment of the cardiovascular system. These are forerunners of prostaglandins that help to reduce hypertension, arthritis, migraine headaches, and many other conditions. Omega-3 EFAs are contained in fresh deepwater fish, fish oil, canola oil, flaxseed oil, and walnut oil. Omega-6 EFAs are found in raw nuts, legumes, seeds, grape seed oil, primrose oil, sesame oil, and soybean oil. It has been discovered that native Arctic people have very low rates of arteriosclerosis due to their diets being high in these two oils.
Physicians will often prescribe anticoagulants (one such would be aspirin) to make the blood less prone to clotting. In order for this treatment to be effective, do not take vitamin K or consume foods that are rich in vitamin K.
Some countries are known to treat arteriosclerosis by using Hyperbaric oxygen.
The California Pacific Medical Center performed a Lifestyle Heart Trial study using twenty-two volunteers. Eighteen of these people, that were on a vegetarian diet which restricted fat intake to 10 percent of total calories, were found to have a considerable decline of advanced coronary artery disease after the first year. Their dietary cholesterol was cut to less than 6 milligrams daily. It has been found that most Americans consume 37 percent of their total daily calories as fats and up to 500 milligrams of dietary cholesterol.

Green Tea
Type:
Internal
Purposes:
Reduces the amount of lipids, as well as cholesterol in the blood, which we know are contributors of arteriosclerosis. Can take as a tea or use the extract version. The Japanese have suggested that, in addition to green tea, black tea can be used along with it. This will cut back the rate of lipoprotein oxidation. Lipoprotein oxidation manufactures fats in the blood. Should this happen, the likelihood with increase that the fats will accumulate in the arteries.
Dosage:
1-4 cups daily of tea.
