A clouding or darkening of the lens of the eye. A cataract, when untreated, permanently blurs vision. Cataracts occur naturally in the elderly, but exposure to too many ultraviolet rays can cause them in anyone. It is important to wear sunglasses that provide UV protection in bright sunlight.
